Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was made the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms as well as arms control. She traveled with Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss topics like and the Iran Contra scandal.
