Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to become famous in the mainstream did not succeed. Perry has been signed by 2 distinct record labels, but she resigned before she released any songs. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which attracted a small amount of attention for its cheerfully joking title. Perry became a bigger star several months later with the single I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the fascination of sexuality accompanied by a rough electronic-pop beat. Many critics accused the track as a sly reference to homosexuality, while others claimed that the song's raunchy lyrics were intended to attract male fantasies. I Kissed A Girl's mix of titillation, polished melody and an enthralling chorus made it become a top-ten hit across a range of countries. It led to The album, One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy 2nd single Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album the songs Perry wrote herself eventually registered sales of more than three million copies within the United States.
